Designed to Reduce Setup Time - With Some Limitations
By Lon J. Seidman
Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R20P0MWODN8RK2 Epson has a long history making quality projectors and this one is no exception. It is very bright, lightweight, and is probably one of the easier units on the market to actually set up and use. But that ease comes with a few trade-offs.The most notable feature is the auto-keystone adjustment that keeps the output square and flat to the projection surface with minimal effort. Anyone who's tried to align a projector image manually knows what a pain it can be to get the image perfectly straight. While the projector is able to make this adjustment quickly and effectively, it will leave a black box around portions of the image. You can see an example of that in my video.Another time saver is the USB display option. If you struggle with getting your PC to output video properly to a projector this feature will be a lifesaver. Install the driver once on a Mac or PC and plug in a USB cable. The projector will quickly mirror whatever is on your computer screen without key presses, resolution changes, or any other configuration. The included display driver for the USB mode stays memory resident on the Mac, taking up a spot in the menu bar. That was a bit annoying. Epson does get points for including an uninstaller that's easy to find for quick removal. I did not test it on Windows but I believe it will operate the same way on that platform. It works well from a plug and play perspective, but the video performance when using the USB connection is sluggish. If you're a Mac Keynote user animations will appear jumpy and not very "Mac-like." Video, especially high definition clips, will be sluggish. You also won't be able to use the "presenter display" feature on Keynote. If you're just displaying static slides or photos the USB option is sufficient. The projector does include a VGA port, so if you need smooth animations and video you can simply plug your Mac or PC in the old fashioned way.Strangely enough the unit does not come with a USB cable but does have a VGA cable packed in. Additionally it does not include a carrying case that many projectors in this price range come with.I'm also disappointed that it lacks an HDMI display port, so I do not recommend it for use with blu-ray players or game machines. It is possible in some cases to use an HDMI to VGA adapter, but movies equipped with HDCP copy protection will not stream through it.CONCLUSIONThis device is aimed at non-techie business people that don't want to go through the embarrassment of configuring their projector when at a client site. This convenience comes at the expense of display speed. Thankfully Epson also provides a VGA port for full speed video. I don't recommend VS315W as a home theater device unless all of your media plays through your Mac or PC.

Good projector, but no case
By Alain B. Burrese
The Epson VS Series VS315W 3LCD Projector 2800 Lumens is a nice little projector. It is very handy and easy to carry, move, and use. There is an easy to use remote that allows you to operate the projector from wherever you need to be in the room. I think the best thing about this projector is that it is small and easy to set up and use. However, I wish it had a carrying case to protect it.Epson is a good brand, and this is a good Projector that does what it is listed as doing. There may be some features and uses that it can't do, but since I'm not a "power" user and actually prefer to speak with minimum things on the screen, this works for those times I need something projected to my audience.Over all, it is a good projector, but I still think it should come with a case.

Pick another Epson model, EX7210 if you want to watch movies or EX3210 if you just need a projector.
By Two kids mom
First of all, this line of Epson projectors are great, but this particular one has some issues that make me suggest you buy one of the other Epsons, depending upon your needs.I am not sure what niche this Epson was meant to fit. I have been using it along with the EX7210 and the EX3210 (see these for specific reviews) in my classrooms. The difference between this projector, and the other two models is that it will project a larger (wider) image than the other two at the same distance from the screen. However, I am quite puzzled by the fact that it has 2600 lumen output compared to the specified 2800 lumens for the EX7210 and the EX3210. As it seems they both use the E TORL lamp I am assuming that the decrease is due to the larger area. Although really that should be defined as lux (lumens spread over an area). The second strange thing is that the projector is capable of high resolution, but does not provide an HDMI input. I have set the higher end EX7210 up to compare the difference by switching between HDMI and composite and VGA and there is a significant difference in the quality of the picture. It also does not come with a case, and the other two models do. Perhaps because this is marketed to businesses, and it is therefore is assumed to be stationary. But still, the great advantage of a projector like this is its portability, so a case should be included. If you want to watch movies you need to get the EX7210. If you just need a projector, the cheaper EX3210 works very well. I see no reason to pay the price premium over the EX3210 for this model, and you do not get a case with it.The following is from my reviews of the other two projector models, and applies to this model as well:Inputs:The projector is absolutely idiot proof when it comes to inputs. You can push the button that says Source Search and it will find where you are trying to input and start displaying the information.Light output:Light output is strong enough that Powerpoint presentations can be seen with the projector 20 feet away from the screen (this is as far back as I can get it in the room in partially lit room. Partially lit in this case is defined as the overhead lights are off but the three windows do not have blinds. The room is bright enough that the students can easily see their papers and take notes (and I can see the students!). These projectors put out 2600 lumens (a lumen is a unit of visible light emitted by a source). The school has 1500 lumen projectors, which I rarely used because the lights had to be all the way off for the student to see the projections, and that leads to trouble. The 2600 is less than the 2800 for other models, but not too noticeable of a difference in the classroom.Sound output:It has built in speakers and they are loud enough for use in a room with 50 students but just barely. In the smaller room with 25 kids it is great. If you use it with a laptop I would suggest adding some speakers for sound.Noise and Heat:They hum. The fan whirs. Not very loud but it is audible. They get hot, and fast. This is one problem because you need to let them sit for a few minutes after using so the fan can cool the bulb down before you unplug it. That means I have to remember to turn them off a few minutes before class ends. If you are leaving it in one place this is not a problem. If you have to run, it might be.Other issues:I originally tried to use the projectors with really cheap (think less than a cup of high end coffee) 25 foot long HDMI cables. This caused some problems, with the signal dropping out every once in a while. Digital is either all there, or not. With a slightly better (think two fast food dinners) 25 foot cable I did not have this problem.
